Here’s the real Indian Summer
THE younger members of the family have their favourite haunts in Cheltenham. For Chinese, it’s Bar & Wok, for a quick lunch, it’s Nandos and for a special treat, it’s Indian Voojan.
It’s the one Indian restaurant we had yet to try and so we met up for an early supper in the stylish Montpellier quarter of town. Smart from the outside, it’s sophisticated inside too with subdued lighting, yet flashes of magenta illuminating big abstracts on the white walls, while vivid blue floor strips lead the way up the stairs to further seating.
Comfy, dark high-back chairs and white tablecloths with simple settings add to the modern, clean lines and the smiling staff led by owner Ali Ansar are quick to seat you, get you drinks and leave you to browse the menus.
And there’s plenty to choose from, both favourites and some more unusual dishes. Seafood is inviting with crab and salmon and several king prawn dishes. Try them in a mustard and red chilli sauce, with garlic and green chillies or with Indian cheese and honey.
